I know the punk scene doesn’t have much Hollywood glam to it–no red carpet events, not much publicity, and not too much gossip swirling around it either. But, the punk scene definitely has its place in Hollywood.
In the last year, I’ve seen NOFX, Lagwagon, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes, and NUFAN and I recently got to thinkin’ ‘man, Hollywood red carpet events are so much work! It’s bit refreshing to go to a punk concert…’
So here’s the top 5 reasons why Punk Concerts Rock vs. Hollywood Red Carpet Events:
1. There’s never a line for the women’s restroom! You have to pay the price for this convenience by rockin’ out with a bunch of sweaty dudes during the concert; but during the break between bands, it is oh so nice to see a line out the men’s restroom door and literally NO waiting in the women’s. This happens no where else in the universe that I know of.
2. You don’t have to get dressed up. In fact you’d look hella outta place if you did dress up. It’s T-shirts & jeans all the way at these venues. Chances are if you get anywhere near the stage, you could end up with destroyed clothing from smelly boys getting their sweat all over you (ewwwww) or from the testosterone powered pit gettin’ too rowdy; so you really just don’t dress up and once in awhile it’s just relaxing to not have to get all done-up, ya know?
3. You’re feet don’t hurt after the long night out. Tennis shoes, oh, glorious tennis shoes–no pumps, no stilettos, NO high fashion…just the cozy comfort of my Vans…ah, I luv that most. What goes better with jeans and a tee than my cute pink & blue Vans? Maybe I could go a lil’stylish with my “ass-kickin’ boots” but even if I wear those, they’re still flat. NO SORE FEET! Awwwwwesome.
4. Hair & make-up is a breeze. Since you aren’t dressed up & ur rockin’ jeans, tennies, & a tee, you really don’t have to do all that much to your hair & make-up either. I mean, really, who are you gonna want to impress at a punk show? Curls would really just be pointless; at most you maybe use a straight iron–easy, breezy, punkable hair.
5. You get to be close to the band. Since Punk has a relatively small following in comparison with mainstream music, the concerts are usually held in smaller venues: Wiltern Theatre is probably my all-time fav, but HOBs are pretty good & the Fonda is pretty cool too. Up close and personal is such a nice change over the cold & often snobby Hollywood crowd…you know, the Kim Kardashian’s of the world, who come to an event and then don’t even want to stop for a picture–lame. It’s casual, kick’back, and personal at Punk Concerts, so you just feel human…and human is a good thing amidst the craziness in plastic land.
There you have it girls–take a break from Hollywood and go see a good punk concert!
