Theodor Seuss Geisel, a.k.a Dr. Seuss, the famous author of America's favorite children's books would have turned 105 today, March 2nd. Dr. Seuss' birthday kicks off a week full of reading and fun activities at schools across the nation, an event known as Read Across America.
The first day of Read Across America is all about Dr. Seuss and his work. Children are encouraged to dress in an outfit with stripes or a hat like the one worn by the cat in Dr. Seuss' infamous story,
The Cat in the Hat.

Dr. Seuss has written many books, which includes
Green Eggs and Ham and
Go Dog Go, that have become traditional reading for beginning readers. With their corky characters and funny antics there's no question as to why the books are still popular today. For more on Dr. Seuss click
