Maggie Gyllenhaal Hosts New Season Of 'Independant Lens'

Maggie Gyllenhaal will be hosting the upcoming season of PBS' new series
Independent Lens. Past seasons have been hosted by award-winning actors
Edie Falco, Angela Basset, Don Cheadle, and
Susan Sarandon.
"I'm a passionate believer in the power of independent film. 'Independent Lens' filmmakers ignore the rules and spend years pursuing diverse stories about people not normally seen on TV. I am truly honored to present their work as the new host of Independent Lens," said Gyllenhaal.

Independent Lens is an Emmy award weekly series which features documentaries and fiction films united by the creative freedom, artistic achievement and unflinching visions of their independent producers. Independent Lens features unforgettable stories about unique individuals, Communists, and moments in history.
This season, Independent Lens will showcase a powerhouse selection of 27 independent films that bring unique collection of stories unlike anything else on television. Independent Lens spans the country and circles the globe bringing together wildly diverse documentaries about unforgettable people and places. For example-- a cramped NYC apartment filled with mind-blowing modern art; the world's largest garbage village outside the skirts of Cairo; and Butte, Montana, where five generations intersect with key historical events.
The series kicks off with Herb & Dorthy, a postal worker and his librarian wife whose passion led them to create one of the most priceless collections of contemporary art in the world.
