The
USS New York, the US Navy's newest battleship, set out on it's Maiden voyage from the New York Harbour today, November 2nd.

The USS New York was built using 7.5 tons of recycled steel from the World Trade Center and is the third ship to be named to commemorate the September 11th attacks.
The 684 ft. long battleship, which cost $1 billion to make, carries a crew of 361 sailors. Reports say that the request to serve abroad the USS New York were higher than any other ship and 13% of those who were chosen to serve are sailors from New York.

The vessel was commissioned in New York on Saturday, October 31st, and started off it's maiden voyage with a 21 gun salute near ground zero.
Apparently, it's the entire front area of the ship that was built out of the recycled steel from the World Trade Center and I can't quite put my finger on exactly why I feel this way, but it really just creeps me out a little. A war monument cruising the waters in the name of America and it's a weapon too... am I the only one that thinks it's eerie? Can someone else explain why?
