Gay Malawi Couple Arrested for Getting Married

Tiwonge Chimbalanga and
Steven Monjeza have been arrested and charged with indecency after becoming the first gay couple to wed in Malawir.
Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza, were married on Saturday in a traditional Malawi ceremony despite risk of imprisonment because homosexuality is illegal in the African state.
Dave Chingwalu, a police spokesperson, stated,
We arrested them (Tiwonge Chimbalange and Steven Monjeza) last night at their home and charged them with gross public indecency because the practice is against the law.
Sadly, the maximum sentence for homosexuality is 14 years in prison.
