transgender couple from California are expecting a child.
Scott Moore and his husband, Thomas Moore
, are expecting a baby boy, whom they plan to name Miles. The couple is legally married because Scott has a female birth certificate.
Both Scott and Thomas have changed their gender from female to male. Thomas had a hysterectomy and gender reassignment last year, but Scott, who has been taking male hormones since he was 16 and had his breasts removed, still had his female organs and chose to carry their child.
A male friend donated the sperm for the couple and Scott became pregnant last June via insemination.
Scott has warned the staff at the local hospital of his gender saying,
We didn't want everyone to be shocked when a man turns up to give birth. We found it very difficult to get a doctor and midwife at first. It was hard when people didn't want to treat me. No pregnant person should be denied healthcare just because they are a man. I'm looking forward to giving birth now. With Thomas at my side everything will be just fine.
Miles is due next month and will be Thomas and Scott's third child. Thomas fathered two children, Gregg--12 and Logan--10, with a former female partner.
