Jay-Z Isn't a Fan of 'We Are The World' Remake

Jay-Z is a huge fan of We Are the World, but he isn't too happy with the remake. JAYZHe spoke with MTVNews.com at the 2 Kings dinner in Dallas on Saturday night, February 13th, saying,
I know everybody is gonna take this wrong. 'We Are the World,' I love it, and I understand the point and think it's great. But I think 'We Are the World' is like [Michael Jackson's] "Thriller" to me. I don't ever wanna see it touched. I'm a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that's going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but 'We Are the World' is [musically] untouchable like "Thriller" is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable.
Jay-Z isn't the first person to oppose the remake, The Washington Post said, "The updated take was horribly oversung....save for the 21st-century rap verses added toward the end of the track" and the New York Times wrote, "Lil Wayne, you're no Bob Dylan.... as a piece of work, [the song] has all the pitfalls of a Hollywood remake." What did you think of the remake?

I agree that there sum songs that should neva b touched, maybe sampled... even sum of Jz song in the future shouldnt b touched...but.... on the other hand JZ is known to be a hater and therefore is doing it well hes the only one that has a problem with it. If he would have came up with the idea to do the remake it would have been the best...for what its worth, this bout a nation that has been hit hard and at the end of the day thats all that matters

I agree with Jay Z. For the most part, those who performed on this version are not as talented as those who did the original.
