In Beat Week Magazine, MP discusses the inspiration behind his new album and musical identity that is tied directly to his Detroit roots where he was constantly surrounded by diversity:

"I was really lucky because it was so diverse. I lived in a city called Southfield, and from an extremely young and really poor people, both really white and really black people, and the result of that was a pretty eclectic music collection for a young age. A lot of people today have trouble genre-fying and attaching words to my music because it's kind of a patchwork of all the things I grew up listening to. And that's because I was in such a diverse area."

And what's Mike's secret ingredient to writing music? He believes it is all about the honesty in his lyrics:

"Everything I write is true, and that's the only reason I've gotten this far in my career is that my listeners know that when I say something in a song, it's real to me. That makes the music real to them."
