Hilary Duff tells Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover all about her new book, Elixir.
She explains that the story's about a girl whose father disappears and her journey across the world to find out what really happened. The novel encompasses mystery, drama, forbidden love, and internationalism; it is undoubtedly a must read page turner!
Hilary discussed the inspiration and writing process of the new book, saying, “It took about a year to write the book, but about six months before that I was kind of getting the itch to do something new. I think that just by having my job, doing what I do, I am always thinking of new ideas… I just started writing them down and decided to do something of it instead of it just going to waste.”
Hilary explains that writing a book is a really different process. For her, the best part was that: “I really got to be home and with my dogs and not constantly preparing for performing in front of thousands of people.”
Her book also has a video trailer! “It is kind of a new thing they are doing. The great thing is that is makes things so visual. When you are reading a book you can be so creative, but this kind of ties the two together,” said Duff.
Hilary explains how the main character in the novel, Clea, was inspired from personal experiences. “I tried to create a unique character, but I think by being so invested in [the writing process] parts of yourself begin to seep through.”
She did make every effort to create a character different from herself, imagining all the things she could do if she were another person. “I tried to make a unique girl and step outside of me, but she is kind of like me.” For example Clea is also in the spot light—“…her parents are very well known; one is a politician and one is a heart surgeon.” Hilary also explains that her and Clea both sought out to find love.
We all know that Hilary’s search for romance has come to a happy close with her marriage to Mike Comrie, but will Clea have the same good fortune? Find out! Pick up your copy of this sure-to-be great read at a bookstore near you!
