It's Memorial Day Weekend and folks everywhere are taking advantage of it. Be it barbecuing in their backyard or tanning on the crowded beaches, people are out and about celebrating the coming summer season any way they can. The Hangover: Part 2 crew is no doubt celebrating the warm weather also, but the fact that they dominated this weekend's box office is more than likely a whole another awesome reason for them to party it up.
While the whole release of The Hangover: Part 2 started off a little shaky with a lawsuit on copyright infringement, the wolfpack and its fans clearly didn't let it get to them.
The film kicked off the summer movie season with a record-setting $86.4 million over the three-day weekend (Friday to Sunday). That's the best three-day weekend ever for a live-action comedy! And really, are any of us really that surprised? It was only the most highly-anticipated film of the weekend. In any case, at this rate, the movie is set to pull in about $106 million by the end of the four-day holiday weekend. That is a lot of moola! Overall, The Hangover will make about twice that of it's predecessor.
The animal crew in Kung Fu Panda 2 didn't do as well as the wolfpack this weekend, making less than it's original with $48 million. No matter, the movie still managed to beat out 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides' in third with $39.4 million.
What did you watch this weekend?
