Rihanna Fires Back At Parents TV Council Over 'Man Down' Video

Rihanna premiered her new music video "Man Down" on Tuesday, and apparently a violent scene in which she guns down a rapist ruffled a few feathers with The Parents Television Council!

After the PTC slammed Rihanna for the video, she fired back on Twitter this morning, writing, "I'm a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice! Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why! Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD! The music industry isn't exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! Its your job to make sure they dont turn out like US."

The Parents Television Council released the following statement after catching their first peek at the video:

"Rihanna's personal story and status as a celebrity superstar provided a golden opportunity for the singer to send an important message to female victims of rape and domestic violence. Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability."

rhianna is awesome and that is awesome and i agree with her. she has a right to do whatever she wants so PTC is dumb for trying to take that away from her :p

Parents can ignore it all they want, but victims of rape imagine getting revenge or winning the battle between her and her attacker for the rest of their lives. Rhianna just gave that need to overcome being a victim, a voice. She used her art to reveal what rape victims hold back. And her whole song is about regretting the revenge, so what is their problem?

Ugh.. These parents who think they are the judges of TV need to butt out. We will decide what we want our kids to watch, not somenosey and off their rockets strangers. I will decide thanks you. I do not need you telling us what we can watch

i think the ptc should worry about some of the stuff on tv with ppl actually having sex rather than some girl taking the law into her own hands and killing a rapist. maybe she could have aimed for his privates instead, but if she'd dond that instead of killing him. they'd b on her even more. ~genibabii2o9
