For all you Footloose fans out there, director Craig Brewer did a pretty darn good job of sticking to the film's original story line. The movie takes place in a small southern town called Bomont, where five teenagers were killed in an accident a few years back. After the accident, the town's councilman & Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) forbid dancing and loud music in the town (yikes).
This law comes as quite a culture shock to Ren McCormack (Wormald), who comes from a big city life in Boston who has major skills in the dancing department. The film centers around the determination of Ren and the help of his new friends as they challenge the laws set in place by Reverend Moore. Oh, and there's of course a love story that involves, yup you guessed it, the Reverend's daughter, Ariel Moore (Hough) and Ren!

The movie is sprinkled with both Footloose throw-back tunes and new age music, which, when combined together make you wanna jump out of your seat and boogie. I would be lying if I didn't admit that upon leaving the screening, I couldn't stop tapping my feet and snapping my fingers (seriously!) The chemistry between Hough and Wormald is adorable and relatable to anyone who has experienced that first love kinda thing (swoon). Not to mention, the side characters play a phenomenal role in adding charm to the 'family fun-loving' film that it is. Dennis Quaid delivers many inspiring, faith driven monologues that are also well-played throughout the film. It's McCormack's best friend, Willard (played by new comer Miles Teller) that adds much of the comedic timing to the remake -- even at times stealing the scene!
While I was pretty certain audiences were going to get some stellar dance moves out of Hough, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about her acting ability. And above some of the cheesy moments that are expected in the film, overall, Hough delivered a pretty on-point performance.
Wormald charmed his way through the entire movie, and as one of the soon-to-be newest heart throbs in Hollywood -- delivered a fantastic performance and will definitely take to a pedestal as one of the break out stars of the year. Mark my words!

One of the best scenes in the film is the 'iconic' angry warehouse dance where Wormald shows the audience his Kevin Bacon, might I add, 'comparable' dance moves. He rocks it! Not to mention, all of the dance sequences in the film stand strong as highlights, especially the end 'Footloose' inspired dance that brings the movie to an epic finale.
While remakes can sometimes be a challenge to make happen successfully, there is no doubt that Paramount's efforts have paid off. The overall inspiring classical film Footloose is one worth seeing this year!
