Every year it seems hairstyles get crazier and crazier. So when we run out of ways to crimp, tease and curl our own locks, what do we do? Rock a wild wig, naturally!
Wig-wearing was a huge trend for some of music's biggest divas both on and off the red carpet. While Lady Gaga has been sporting zany wigs for a few years now, hip-hop diva Nicki Minaj wore, hands-down, the most spectacular wigs this year!
Check out our faves from 2011!
Nicki Minaj - The Avant-Garde Wig-Wearer
The rising star power of Nicki Minaj is almost matched by the rising height of her wigs. If there's a crazy wig out there, chances are, Nicki has worn it. Her top three wildest red carpet wigs are the leopard spotted hair she sported at the Oscar de la Renta fashion show, the sky high bee hive at the Casio Tryx launch, and the multi-colored layered bun she donned at the MTV VMAs.
Rihanna - The Chic-Wigged Diva
While her choices are perhaps a touch less crazy than that of Nicki, Rihanna is a fan of vibrant wigs. Almost the whole year, she's had her hair dyed fire-engine red, but when she's tired of her hairstyle, she swaps it out for a sleek red cropped wig or a blown-out shoulder length style. And on stage, she often can be seen with a blond bob, like above. She may be the only girl who tones DOWN her hairstyle with a wig.
Lady Gaga - The Wig Godmother
Lady Gaga isn't a newbie to costume wigs. She practically invented them. But that didn't stop Gaga from sporting some of the most creative faux hairstyles out there this year. She went electric blue for CFDA Fashion Awards, black & blonde for her Born This Way promotional appearance and multi-colored with gold, green, and blonde for an appearance at the Taj Hotel in India.
Katy Perry - The Pop-Wigged Wonder
Rounding out our list is Katy Perry. Katy liked to sport wild wigs for her shows, like the famous bright blue one she wore throughout her tour -- but she also took a liking to the neon blue hue, and sported it out on the street as well! Half the year Katy didn't even need a wig to express her follicular wild side: she dyed her hair bubble gum pink in 2011, and fashioned many cotton candy-like hairdos on red carpets.
Who do you think had the wildest wig of 2011?
