Ever since the smash-hit comedy Bridesmaids was released last summer, fans of the flick have been anxious to hear whether a sequel is in the works. Especially now that the movie got a slew of nominations from the Golden Globes -- and an Oscar nom doesn't seem like a long shot! A second installment would surely make sense from a money-making standpoint (see: Hangover 2), but there's always the worry that it wouldn't make sense from a creative standpoint (see: Hangover 2).
Well, alas, Kristen Wiig has finally laid those rumors to rest/ crushed our sequel-loving dreams. She told E! Online, "We're not planning on doing one. We had a special time making the first one, but we're really excited to try something else."
The "something else" in question may be referring to the upcoming movie Friends With Kids which stars several members of the Bridesmaids cast, namely Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jon Hamm and Chris O'Dowd. The movie is written and directed by Hamm's longtime love Jennifer Westfeldt. Jennifer also stars in the movie, with the center of the plot around her and Adam Scott. It may not be Bridesmaids 2, but hey, it looks pretty good -- and written and directed by a woman in Kristen's circle of hilarity, we have high hopes.

We'll take it for now. And we've got to give Kristen even MORE props for not being coaxed by what we presume would have been a huge paycheck for a sequel to Bridesmaids, if she knew that it realistically wouldn't be as good. Instead, we're excited for Friends with Kids and movies that Kristen writes in the future!
Are you disappointed that there won't be a Bridesmaids sequel??
