54th Grammy Awards: Most Watched In Over 20 Years!
The death of Whitney Houston the day before the Grammys left one question in people’s minds: how will they pull together a tribute? With many left wondering, we all tuned in the over three-hours long telecast to find out. The result? Major love to Jennifer Hudson and very high ratings for the Grammys!
Sunday’s show had more people watching than any other Grammy ceremony in the last 25 years, according to E! Online. In fact, it was the second-most watched Grammys EVER! Could it have been the passing of Houston or the crazy list of performers scheduled to perform? Or maybe the fact that it was Adele’s big return to the stage after undergoing throat surgery?

Regardless, reviewers praised the show, especially Hudson’s rendition of Whitney’s power ballad I Will Always Love You. Entertainment Weekly said it was “a performance that Houston herself would have been proud of.” PopMatters called it a “near-flawless imitation” if the original.
While there was some strange points during the show (Nicki Minaj anyone?), the Grammys brought in around 39 million viewers, the most since Michael Jackson’s Thriller-era in 1984. It definitely was a show to watch and their constant love for Whitney throughout made it absolutely perfect.
