Many of Oscar night's biggest stars strayed from bright colors and instead went for dramatic black or white gowns (and in Sandra Bullock's case, a little bit of both). Check out how Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and more A-listers rocked the opposing ends of the color spectrum.

Angelina, in true Angelina fashion, wore black. Her Atelier Versace gown has an incredible neckline, but the skirt is questionable. The fact that she has to cock her hip so much and stick out her leg to make the look work is odd. More trouble than it's worth in our opinion.

Sandra seeminly couldn't decide for between the two trends, so... she went for both! We think the gold accents with her Marchesa gowns really tie the unusual, yet classic look together.

And then there's Gwyneth, who pulled off a dress that only Gwyneth could: a skin-tight white gown. While the Tom Ford gown is a little simple, we love that she took a risk with a matching white cape and are drooling over her diamond cuff. Yet again, this woman is flawless.
