My Monday Playlist: Whitney Houston's Music Lives On
With the death of music legend Whitney Houston this past weekend, we can’t help but think back to all the great music she brought to our ears. And that voice! She will always be known as THE voice of our generation. For this week’s My Monday Playlist, we’re paying homage to the one and only Whitney with a list of some of her very best tunes.
Some may associate her with the classic power ballad I Will Always Love You, but Houston had a long list of singles that topped music charts week after week. It’s even continued on after her passing on iTunes! So Whitney, this list is for you. Thank you for giving us the gift of music and sharing that beautiful voice with the world.
I Will Always Love You
No surprise that this one tops the list. One of her most recognized songs, the tune starts off soft and slow and Whitney brings it home in the end, showing the world what she’s made of. The song was actually a remake of Dolly Parton’s original song, but many will always pin it to Houston.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Forget those slow songs that we all know Whitney could rock out in her sleep. This upbeat single off her album Whitney landed her the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Plus, doesn’t this just make you want to get up and dance around?!
How Will I Know
Another catchy song that was insanely popular when it was released. It even went on to sell 400,000 copies in two weeks! It’s your typical 80’s song but throw in Whitney’s pipes and you’ve got yourself a smash!

Greatest Love of All
Off her self-titled debut album, this one has been covered by so many different artist and even inspiring singers at your local karaoke bar. Linda Creed wrote the song while struggle with breast cancer and Whitney brought it to life later on. This one is so inspirational that you’ll feel like you conquer the world and get through just about anything. Now who doesn’t love a song like that?
So Emotional
The song was written by the same men who penned Madonna’s Like a Virgin and Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors, so it’s pretty obvious it was destined for success. Putting Whitney’s vocals to the song made it just sky-rocket to the top of the charts in the blink of an eye. And having Houston sing lyrics like “I get so emotional baby/ Every time I think of you/ I get so emotional/ Ain’t it shocking what love can do” gives me goose bumps every time!
