While you may not know it from your 10-day weather forecast, spring is right around the corner! And with the spring thaw comes some of the most exciting fashion trends of the year.
And since stars tend to stay ahead of the curve (and live in sunny Los Angeles), we've spotted droves of celebs on the street sporting some awesome casual looks for the new season! Check out how the stars are wearing the latest spring trends and get some tips on how to rock them when the weather heats up!
Trend 1: High-Waisted Long Skirts
Long, flowing skirts have been a huge hit since last summer, and this season is no different. The key for 2012 is making like Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, and opt for a skirt with a high waist.
The subdued hues of their respective skirts allow for the starlets to play with color in other garments. Vanessa (with her boyfriend Austin Butler) went for a sky blue tank while Ashley brightens up the look with a stoplight red purse.
While it's unclear whether Ashley's top is a part of a dress or a separate, we love the play on shape in her look. The flowing skirt and cropped top look gorgeous on her figure, because the skirt cinches at the waist and the top has a deep neckline. And while I wouldn't be a fan of a top like Vanessas with a pair of skinny jeans, the skin-tight camisole goes perfectly with the long, flowing skirt. And the chunky sweater is a good add-on for that biting spring wind.
Trend 2: Cropped Colored Pants
I've already been loving and embracing the colored denim trend this past fall and winter, so I'm happy to see that it's rolling over into spring! The cropped pants hit just at the right length and don't wander into '90s capri territory. And I'm loving these colors -- particularly Taylor Swift's pair, in that pumpkin hue. It almost doubles as a neutral, replacing a brown or tan in an outfit. The color works so well with that white and red striped sweater and her orange Oxfords. Oh and the sidebraid is so spring to me. I don't know why, but it screams picnicking in a meadow.
Also digging Katherine Heigl's canary yellow pants, though I'm not sure that light hue would be flattering on not-as-toned/famous legs. Katherine nailed a nautical preppy look for spring with her navy blazer and matching flats. I'm assuming she's setting sail sometime this afternoon. While flats are probably the right move with these kinds of pants, I could totally see this look with a nude wedge heel as well.
Trend 3: Printed Maxi Dresses
Dust off your 2011 spring maxi dresses because they're coming back with avengeance. The comfortable, casual, yet totally chic printed maxi is a perfect look for any daytime fete. Love the way Olivia Wilde put her laid-back look together with the cropped leather jacket and sneakers. For a girl in a floorlength cotton dress, she looks pretty badass.
I'm also a fan of Heidi Klum's dress, though I would warn any girl who doesn't have a supermodel frame to avoid a flowing dress like hers without adding structure, such as a waist belt or a jacket like Olivia's to give more shape to your figure. And are those gladiator sandals I see? I guess that's a two-for-one with 2011 rollover styles. Flats are generally the way to go with a floor-length maxi, but every now and then adding a pair of chunky platforms and tying the bottom of the dress up in a knot is a chic springy style as well.
Take a look at all the pre-spring styles in the gallery and let us know which you love and which you'll be avoiding come March 21st!
