The world may know Emma Watson as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter films, but she's doing everything she can to shed that squeaky-clean image. And her next film role is a good step in that direction -- she's just signed on to star as a celebrity-thieving teenager in Sofia Coppola's new film The Bling Ring.
Variety is reporting that The Bling Ring is about a band of teenagers who are in the business of robbing celebrities' Hollywood homes. Watson will be playing the group's leader. Coppola wil write, direct, and produce the film, and said that she was inspired to write the script after a string of crimes very similar to the ones that will happen in the film occured in Los Angeles in real life a few years ago.
This will hardly be Watson's first post-Potter role, however. She starred alongside Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn, plays a leading role in the upcoming The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and is in negotiations to star in both David Yates' Your Voice in My Head and Guillermo del Toro's Beast.
We couldn't be happier for Emma! She was cast in the Harry Potter film franchise when she was only 9 years old -- there was no way to predict way back then that she would emerge as one of the world's most beloved (and highly-paid!) film stars. Plus, she just seems like a really cool, down-to-earth person and we love it when nice people get success!
Are you excited to see The Bling Ring?
