The producers of The Hunger Games know exactly how good their movie is, and they're proving it to potential movie-goers by releasing several clips from the film. The latest such clip to be released is the absolutely heart-wrenching scene where Katniss says goodbye to Gale before being whisked away to the Capitol. Check it out:
For those of you who haven't read the book (and seriously, what are you waiting for?), this scene takes place immediately after Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her younger sister's place in the 74th annual Hunger Games -- a nationally televised competition where 24 children fight to the death. Yeah, pretty heavy stuff -- and Jennifer and Liam Hemsworth do an amazing job of capturing that desperation. The way they run into each other's arms, that look on his face as he's hugging her, his garbled response to her "I'm fine..." It's just SO good.
This is the fourth scene that's been released -- the first three were Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) confessing to Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) that he is in love with Katniss, Katniss meeting Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) for the first time, and Katniss showing off her mad bow and arrow skills for the Gamemakers. All of these scenes have taken crucial scenes from the book and brought them to life in ways that manage to enhance -- not take away from -- the scenes constructed by readers' imaginations. If these short 30-second-ish clips can do that, imagine what watching the full two-hour, twenty-two-minute film will be like!
The Hunger Games finally hits theaters this Friday -- just three days away, guys!
What do you think of the cinematic interpretation of the scene where Katniss and Gale say their goodbyes?
