Jennifer Lawrence Causes Controversy With PETA Over 'Rolling Stone' Comment

Let’s all hope she isn’t the next flour bomb victim! HungerGames leading lady Jennifer Lawrence tried to make a joke about the animalrights organization PETA and let’s just say it didn’t go over exactly as she hadplanned. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Lawrence tried to make lightof a scene in Winter’s Bone where she skins a squirrel by saying, “I shouldsay it wasn’t real, for PETA. But screw PETA.”

Well, PETA wasn’t too happy about that one, little comment.President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement, “She’s young and the plight ofanimals somehow hasn’t yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, “Thesquirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.”

Newkirk continued, “When people kill animals, it is theanimals who are ‘screwed,’ not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make upfor any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out ahumble existence in nature.”

J-Law hasn’t made a comeback comment yet, but I mean, whatdo you say to that? PETA doesn’t take any situation, comment or fashionstatement lightly and we’re sure Jennifer will most likely think before shemakes another comment like that, just in case!

puh-leaze!!, i am all for animal rights and the humane treatment of animals, etc., but sometimes PETA gets their panties in a bunch a little too easily. they can really be too sensitive sometimes. i am pretty sure that jennifer lawrence didn't have to skin a real squirrel in her scene. i would have been apalled if that were the case. all lawrence did was offer a personal statement/opinion about how she feels about PETA, not that she condones killing animals. ugh! its such a double edged sword for celebs, damned if you do damned if you dont!

hunting is fun PETA is a load of garbage that doesn't realize that our ancestors lived of the land for years and that is how it was meant to be she definitively should have mad that statement because it is true animals do need rights but the world isn't made of vegetarians so screw PETA

go jennifer!!!!!! I am so proud that a big star like her said something like that, and I hope that she does not cave in and apologize. there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with hunting or eating meat. It is a way of life, always has been and always WILL be. Just because a group of people react ignorantly about it, does not mean it is wrong.

Animals should not die for a movie or other entertainment purposes. Seriously, some of you need to grow up. Just because you're selfish and want to eat meat doesn't mean you have to disagree with PETA on all issues. You sound like rich assholes who don't care about the real poor, not just human poor. Yes, believe it or not, there are creatures on the planet that suffer infinitely more than any person in a 3rd wolrd country.

There were not any animals killed FOR the film. A hunter offered, he had already killed. Just because people eat meat does not make them selfish... Do you drive a car? It's killing the environment but it's not particuarly selfish. PETA can be mad but it was just a joke I'm sure Jennifer cares for animals, she did grow up on a farm.

How did she cause pain to any animals??? She did not kill the Animals somebody else... All Lawrence did was skin a DEAD squirrel. I feel that people who purposefully cause harm to animals are cruel people. But I mean let's be real for just a second. We have all accidentally brought harm to an animal whether it was accidentally hitting it the highway or polluting it's environment. The important thing to get out of this is that no she did not hurt any animals!!!

I hate PETA. They seem to think that they are always morally right about everything, and based on what Newkirk said, they seem to believe that anyone who doesn't support PETA is stupid or naive. There is nothing wrong with eating meat or going shooting. I always have and I always will. I didn't know who Jennifer Lawrence was until I read this, but this is a free country and she can say what she wants. I myself would happily have said it to Ingrid Newkirk myself if I had the chance. There is a difference between animal rights and animal welfare, PETA. Remember that. In Britain, we have good animal welfare. I support animal welfare, but I couldn't care less for animal rights.
