Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson spoke with EW at this weekend's White House Correspondents' Dinner and dished his true feelings about Hunger Games director Gary Ross being replaced by Francis Lawrence for the sequel!
Josh heard the news that Ross wouldn't be directing Catching Fire in the news, just like the rest of us. And he was shocked! "I called him and I was like 'Gary what’s up? What’shappening? Tell me it’s not the truth.' I’ve never heardsomeone sound more dejected on the phone than he was. He was so sad he can’t bedoing it."
Josh said he's also "sad about Gary not being there," but that he can't wait to start shooting Catching Fire. He called Lawrence, who is best known for directing "extremely talented." "I think we’re going to make a good movie nevertheless," he said,"and I’m excited to see what Francis brings to the table."
Of course, Ross was offered the Catching Fire gig by Lionsgate but dropped out a few weeks ago because of scheduling constraints. "As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the timeI need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of thefixed and tight production schedule," he said in a statement. Lionsgate rushed to replace Ross and less than a week later, announced Francis Lawrence as the new director of Catching Fire.
Do you think Francis Lawrence will do Catching Fire justice? Or will the movie suffer without Gary Ross?
