It's not exactly a secret that Jessica Simpson is pregnant -- she even posed nude, cradling her baby belly, on the cover of the April issue of Elle! But even though this should be a happy time in Jessica's life, some people are criticizing her for the amount of weight she's gained during her pregnancy! But Jessica's taking it all in stride and even joked about the "fat" comments on Twitter!

Though many people have expressed concern for Jessica's "extreme" weight gain, The View's Joy Behar took it one step further and flat-out called her "fat!" According to US Weekly, when talking about that famous  moment way back when on Jessica and ex-hubby Nick Lachey's reality show Newlyweds when Jessica didn't know the difference between canned chicken and canned tuna, Joy said, "That kind of thing is more fun to criticize than the fact that the girl is fat... Most women who are pregnant are not supposed to gain more than 25 pounds. She looks like she gained a lot more than that."

How much weight someone gains or doesn't gain during pregnancy is so not anyone's business but her own and Jessica has every right to ignore or lash out at the uninvited criticism. But she's taking the high road and making light of the whole thing! She recently tweeted, "Last chance to see me 'fat' aka PREGNANT on the cover of Elle :) I loved this shoot, only on stands for a few more days!!!"

Other celebs are standing up for Jessica as well. Also-pregnant Tori Spelling recently said, "When women are pregnant, people need to lay off. It's a really special time and you should be able to deal with it in your own terms." Perhaps the most unlikely source of support for Jessica has been former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. When co-hosting the Today show with Matt Lauer last week she said, "I would have wanted to punch [Jessica's critics] in the neck. It's none of anybody else's business how much weight I would gain."

For the record, we think Jessica looks great -- she's healthy and glowing and clearly oh-so-happy. It's sad that our culture has become so obsessed with thinness that a woman is expected to look a certain way even while creating an entirely new human inside of her! Cut the girl some slack, people.

Do you think Jessica has gained too much or does do you agree that she looks fabulous?
