The eleventh season of American Idol premiered way back in January, and now...we finally have a winner! The judges called this season's contestants the best group that has ever competed on the show, but in the end, it came down to Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips to sing for the win.
So...was it the 16-year-old power vocalist Jessica, or the sexy, cool, rocker Phillip? Neither gave their best performances of the season on Tuesday night, but the winner of this season is 21-year-old Phillip Phillips! Of course, for those who have been watching the show all along, this is really no surprise, considering Phillip has been a fan favorite since the beginning (the ladies just can't get enough of him)! Throughout the competition, Phillip avoided the bottom three, while Jessica was nearly eliminated weeks ago in the Top Seven until the judges used their save to keep her in the competition.

For a few weeks, Phillip was highly criticized by the judges for sounded "the same" during every performance and never having a "stand out" song like most of the other contestants. However, in the top three, mentor Jimmy Iovine chose Bob Seger's We've Got Tonight for Phillip to sing, and he proved he really belonged at the top of the pack. With this song, Phillip was able to show his range and vocal ability ... and that he was more than just a guy behind the guitar. Check it out right here in honor of your new American Idol:

During the first few years of American Idol, the ladies ruled the competition, but in the last few years it's been the guys who have taken over! Ever since Season 7, the show has had all male winners (David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee Dewyze, Scotty McCreery and now Phillip). Jordin Sparks was the last female to win back in 2006. Don't worry -- if one of your favorite contestants from the Top Ten didn't win this year, you can still check them all out on tour ... there's still tickets left, so get 'em fast!
