With an incredibly stiff competition on American Idol this year, and an incredible final three, we now officially know which two singers will compete in the finale episode next Tuesday!
After Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips gave three huge performances each on Wednesday night, one had to go home. So...was it power vocalist Jessica, judges favorite Joshua or fan favorite Phillip?! After America's vote, it will be a guy-girl final once again, with Phillip and Jessica singing to become the next American Idol, leaving Joshua to say goodbye on Thursday night. Considering all three of these contestants had little experience being in the bottom three this season, it would've been shocking no matter who went home, so it was definitely an emotional night on the Idol set as Josh sang his final goodbye song.

On Wednesday night, Josh received judges praise for all three of his performances. His first song, judges' choice I'd Rather Go Blind by Etta James, even got him his 15th standing ovation of the season. However, ultimately it is America's decision who moves on, and the judges' praise simply did not get him enough votes. Josh recently peaked in the competition, avoiding the bottom of the pack since way back in the Top Seven.
Before leaving the stage, Josh sang one final time. For his last song choice, he chose It's a Man's Man's Man's World by James Brown, which he performed just last week in the Top Four and got him a standing ovation. In honor of Joshua, who will undoubtely have a career despite being eliminated in the Top Three, let's take a look back at this powerful performance!:

So...with just Phillip and Jessica left...let's break this down. Phillip has been a fan favorite since the very beginning of the competition and has never been in the bottom three throughout the entire season. His charming looks and super sexy voice have won over the female fanbase, even when he he's performed "mediocre" according to the judges. Jessica has been a frontrunner since her first audition, and at only 16-years-old, has one of the most powerful voices the show has ever seen. However, back in the Top 7, Jessica almost faced elimination until she was saved by the judges. Since then, she's come back stronger than ever and has never seen the bottom three again.
Next week, Phillip and Jessica will sing on Tuesday at 8:00 pm ET on FOX for America's final votes. Each contestant will perform three times, singing the song from their favorite performance of the season, a song from their own idol, and the song that will be their first single if they win the competition. On Wednesday, the top 12 contestants from this season will come back to join Phillip and Jessica in a two-hour finale, where they'll all perform before we find out who will be the next American Idol!
