Beyoncé Knowles might be People magazine's World's Most Beautiful Woman, but when it comes to her beauty routine, she likes to keep it simple -- very simple. Beyoncé revealed that she often does her own makeup for public appearances and even cuts her own hair!

The first time Beyoncé put on makeup, she was 6 years old. "I was playing in my mother's makeup," she told People. "I hadblue eye shadow and red lips, and I put crazy blush on. I looked like a clown,but I thought I was so beautiful." So funny how almost every little girl experiences that very same thing at some point in their childhood, right?

Nowadays, Beyoncé stays away from the red lipstick and bright blue eye shadow, replacing them with other basics. She said she tends to stick with lip gloss, a little bit of blush, and mascara. Old mascara. "I'm pretty good at throwing out the expired stuff, but I hold on to mymascara for a long time," she said. "I actually prefer old mascara.It makes your lashes thicker and longer." Shhh! Don't tell that to the makeup companies who are always coming out with all those new "thicker & longer" mascaras!

And as for her hair, Beyoncé admitted that that's one area where she likes to experiment. "I loveplaying around with highlights or bleaching the tips. I can cut and style myown hair." She even recently gave herself a two-inch trim! "I just parted it in the middle and chh-chh-chh," she said. I think that's the kind of bravery that can only come with having a mother for a hairstylist!

But Beyoncé admitted that as much as she loves makeup and trying new hairstyles, she thinks it's what's on the inside that really matters the most -- and that's something she's been thinking about a lot more since her daughter Blue Ivy was born. "My biggest thing is to teach [Blue] not to focus onthe aesthetic," she said. "It's really about who you are, and thehuman being, that makes you beautiful." Sounds like she's already a great mom!
