If you're a lawyer for Tom Cruise, it looks like days off are few and far in between.
The actor announced plans to sue the pants off the National Enquirer after their story which claimed not only that Katie Holmes was abused and lived a "tortured life," but their six-year-old daughter Suri Cruise was forced to live in a "tiny, windowless room" for five months. That's according to ABC News. This is far from the first time Tom has sued someone though--or been sued himself! Check out our rundown of the outrageous lawsuits Tom has managed to find himself in.
2001-Tom sued LA-based publisher for Michael Davis for a staggering $100 million after he claimed to own videotape of Tom engaging in man-on-man sex acts. Tom ultimately lawyered Michael out and the suit was dropped when Michael released a statement saying that Tom "is not, and never has been, homosexual and has never had a homosexual affair."

2003-Tom found himself filing ANOTHER "I'm not gay" lawsuit after porn star and former erotic wrestler Chad Slater claimed the two had an affair which led to Tom leaving his then-wife Nicole Kidman. Chad eventually admitted the story was false and Tom won a $10 million default judgment. Although Tom said he would donate the money to charity, it's unclear if Tom got anything since, you know, a former erotic wrestler probably doesn't have $10 million lying around.
2008-Tom found himself on the receiving end of a lawsuit for once when 12 movie extras from his flick Valkyrie sued him and his production company United Artists for $11 million. They claimed the side panel of the truck they were shooting a scene in was not properly secured and all of them had to be taken to the hospital for injuries including broken ribs, pulled ligaments and even possible internal damage! The co-producer eventually offered all of the extras a settlement.
2008-The lawsuits kept on coming for Tom when he was named in a $250 million federal lawsuit against the Church of Scientology. Ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese claimed the church harassed him when he left, among other things, and that Tom was the right-hand man for the head of the church for foreign and domestic promotion and lobbying! A rep for the church called the lawsuit "frivolous" and both Tom and the church ultimately didn't have to pay a dime.
2009-Remember me?! Michael Davis appeared in Tom's life once again, this time suing the actor for $5 million after claiming the actor hired a notorious Hollywood P.I. to wiretap his phone during their 2001 case. The case was settled in November 2010 for an undisclosed amount.
2012-Tom threatened to sue The National Enquirer over a story with a headline calling him a "monster," allegations of abusing ex-wife Katie and forcing six-year-old daughter Suri to sleep in a windowless bedroom for months. His attorney is demanding an apology and full retraction of the story, claiming that it "will cause him hundreds of millions of dollars of professional and personal damages."
