If you’re going to round up A-list friends, you can’t do much better than the President!
Barack Obama had nothing but good things to say about George Clooney in a recent interview -- and not just because George helped him round up $15 million in a bid for a second term. The President bonded with the actor over humanitarian issues they both feel strongly about and referred to him as “a good friend.”
George has been a long-standing opposer to the genocide and political oppression taking place in Sudan, which has also been one of Barack’s primary issues even when serving as a Senator. “He is a terrific advocate on behalf of the people of Darfur, and to the people of Sudan who've been brutalized for a long time," said Barack. "George, who had traveled there, done documentaries there, and was very well-informed, came to testify in Congress. And so we got to know each other, and he is a good man, and a good friend."
So will we see them going to trendy restaurants together or Barack on the red carpet at one of George's movie premieres? Not according to the President. He said George is graciously aware of public perception and doesn't want people getting the idea that Barack only hangs out with movie stars. So for now, it looks like their only photo-ops will be at Congress hearings.
What do you think of the friendship between Barack and George?
