Today would have marked the 54th birthday of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. For decades Michael topped the Billboard charts as part of the Jackson 5 and as a solo recording artist, gaining a worldwide status that no other performer has yet to achieve. And even though it's been over three years since his passing, it's due to those achievements that Michael will live on forever.
So in honor of what would've of been his 54th birthday, lets take a look back through the many years of Michael's reign as the King of Pop:

1970s: The road to stardom began with a family band named the Jackson 5, a band consisting of Michael and his four older brothers. With hits like ABC and I'll Be There, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 ruled the 70s music scene.
1980s: Michael breaks free from the Jackson 5 and goes solo, with HUGE success. 1982 -- Thriller released -- No. 1 best selling-album worldwide and best U.S. best-selling album of all time. 1983 -- Debuts his trademark dance move, the Moonwalk. 1985 -- Teams up with Lionel Richie for charity, co-writes We Are the World, which makes millions for the less fortunate in the U.S. and Africa. 1986 -- Becomes a world-wide amusement park attraction at the "Happiest place on Earth," Disneyworld, in Captain EO. 1987 -- Back at the top of the charts with Bad. 1989 -- Officially dubbed the "King of Pop" or as Elizabeth Taylor said "King of pop, rock and soul."

1990s: 1991 -- Released 8th album Dangerous, featuring the hit song Black or White. 1992 -- Founded Heal the World Foundation. 1993 -- Put on a legendary Super Bowl half-time show. 1994 -- Married Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley. 1997 -- Welcomed first child with second wife Debbie Rowe, son Prince. 1998 -- Welcomed second child, daughter Paris.
2000s: 2001 -- Invincible released -- Last album to be released while still alive. 2002 -- Welcomed his third child, son Blanket. 2006 -- Neverland Ranch, the singers infamous amusement park/home in California, is closed. 2009 -- Announces his "final curtain call," This Is It, concert series set to kick off July 13. However, much to the shock of the entire world, Michael passed away suddenly on June 25th.
