On the night of the Emmys, it's no surprise to see TV's biggest stars floating on air -- but some of them seemed to take inspiration from under the sea. 

In sea-foam greens, wispy blues, and hip-hugging sequins, Sofia Vergara, Hayden Panettiere, Julianne Hough and Heidi Klum all looked like they took a cue from Ariel in The LIttle Mermaid.

Mermaid #1: Sofia Vergara

The always show-stopping Sofia wore an aqua hand-beaded gown from designer Zuhair Murad, which showcased her famous curves. The cutout in the front and lower back added an extra oomph, and the fit through the hip is actually called a mermaid cut. She finished off her mermaid effect with cascading curls.

Mermaid 2: Julianne Hough

Julianne gets points for taking the mermaid inspiro so literally. From the boustier top, the form-fitted sea-foam bodice, to the cascasing sequins, I'm pretty sure this is what Ariel wore when she got married to Prince Eric. And somehow, it works on dry land.

Mermaid #3: Heidi Klum

Heidi's cascading sea-foam gown and matching shoes are something out of an underwater dream sequence in a movie. We love the way it fits her body and shows off her million-dollar legs. But somehow she manages to avoid that ever-so-awkward Angelina leg stance from the Oscars this year. It's like Heidi went to modeling school or something.

Mermaid #4: Hayden Panettiere

Hayden took a cue from the deep sea in this ethereal Marchesa gown. Keeping the hair and makeup understated, the flowing wisps of royal blue chiffon flowing over a shimmering gold gown makes for a stunning silhouette. And with that come-hither look, she looks like a sea siren straight out of the Odyssey.
