Spoiler alert: The Perks of Being a Wallflower is AH-MAZING. And I’m about to give you every reason in the world on why you should spend the chunk of change and see this movie.
Based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, who also directed and wrote the film, Perks tells the story of Charlie (Logan Lerman), a lonely freshman who is already counting down the days until he’s finished with high school. With a popular older sister (Nina Dobrev) who won’t even let him sit next with her at lunch and still dealing with the death of his Aunt (Melanie Lynskey), you start to feel bad for the kid.
It’s not until he meets two INCREDIBLE seniors that his life changes for the better. A flamboyant gay Patrick (Ezra Miller) and his kickass step-sister who has great taste in music Sam (Emma Watson). While being a part of the group known as ‘The Island of Misfit Toys,’ Charlie learns how to deal the guilt and burdens he’s carried for years and step out of his shell. But believe me, there’s a lot more to this film then that that I won’t give away.
Perks gives the perfect perceptive on teen love, loss, tragedy and pretty much every up-and-down that an adolescent faces during their high school days. Let me warn you about a few things though – you will laugh, you will cry and you will walk out of the theater with a smile on your face and the feeling that you are infinite. A definite must-see.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower hits theaters this Friday, September 21st. Check out the trailer!
