Most people would be pretty bummed about getting dumped by Katy Perry, but Gym Class Heroes lead singer Travie McCoy said the split forced him to change his life for the better.

Gym Class Heroes had their Behind the Music special premiere on VH1 last night and Travie said that after Katy broke up with him, he was forced to look at how his addiction to precription drugs was affecting his life. Despite four previous failed rehab attempts, he revealed that he's been clean ever since they split nearly three years ago. "I was sick of trying to feed this monster," he said. "If I didn't do something, I was gonna end up dead."

Travie said that shortly after the breakup, he had an epiphany when he lookd at himself in the mirror. "One morning, I woke up and I went to the bathroom, straight to the medicine cabinet to find my pills, and I looked in the mirror for a good half-hour, just staring at myself," he recalled. "I'm like, 'Who is this guy?' My face was sunken in. I had these awful rings under my eyes. It wasn't me."

It seems like getting clean did plenty of good for Travie's career. Stereo Hearts, the debut single from his first sober album The Papercut Chronicles II, was the most successful of the band's 15-year run together.
