You know those times where you get into a big fight with your mom, so you call your dad for some support, except he calls the cops and secretly records your private phone conversation and sells it to a tabloid, and then you have to go on TMZ to tell them that you were just kidding about your mother’s use of an illicit substance? No, you probably don't. But it’s hard to feel some sympathy for Lindsay Lohan as she deals with exactly that in the latest chapter of the Lohan family saga.
The audio of Lindsay’s call to Michael Lohan is pretty intense — including implications that Dina Lohan is “kidnapping” Lindsay, which prompts the Canyons starlet to say, “She’s like the f***ing devil right now!”

But after that supposedly-private conversation ended up on TMZ, Lindsay called in herself, changing her tune and saying of her father, "I'm done.” She also took back what she said about Dina’s drug use, calling it a “hurtful and untruthful lie." She also had plenty of critical words for her father — but hey, if our dad sold us out to TMZ, we might disown him too! Seriously, who turns on a tape recorder when their daughter calls them for help in the middle of the night?
It’s been common knowledge that Michael means bad news for Lindsay for quite some time — he tends to revel in the attention that comes from all the emotional pain and drama surrounding his daughter. We’re not sure why Lilo placed a call to him in the first place, knowing full well he might take it to the tabloids, though at least she has since acknowledged that it was a mistake.
Lindsay also apparently was just trying to stir up trouble by claiming her mother stole a diamond bracelet and gave Lilo a gash on her leg. We're not sure what to make of the whole “Dina’s on drugs” / “Dina’s not on drugs” reversal. Could it be that Lindsay’s just covering for her mom now that the conversation is public? Or is "Mom's on cocaine!" just the Lohan way of getting the other parent to take your side?

The troubled Liz & Dick star probably didn't help matters by endorsing Mitt Romney on the red carpet at the launch of Mr. Pink ginseng drink last night — stars tend to take flack for claiming to vote Republican (just ask Nicki Minaj). "I just think employment is really important right now," Lilo said — though we'd argue that any issues Lindsay has with unemployment are for different reasons than the rest of the country.
Still, despite the fact that all three Lohans can clearly take their share of the blame for this most recent family saga, we come away from this feeling pretty bad for Lindsay, who obviously didn’t exactly grow up with exemplary role models as parents. Having to call TMZ to make sense of your personal family drama isn’t a fate we’d wish on anyone.
Can we hope for a silver lining in which everyone decides that with this latest explosion of drama, enough is enough?
