When it comes to her health, Sharon Osbourne is no longer taking any chances.
The colon cancer survivor recently discovered that she carries a faulty gene which increases the risk of breast cancer. As an extreme precaution, Sharon underwent a double mastectomy with the approval of her doctor. "I've had cancer before and I didn't want to live under that cloud: I decided to just take everything off and had a double mastectomy," she said in an interview with Hello! Magazine. "It's not 'pity me.' It's a decision I made that's got rid of this weight I was carrying around."
Sharon also revealed that she had another very good reason for undergoing the procedure: her son Jack recently became a first-time father and she wants to be around to see her granddaughter Pearl grow up. "I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl," she said. "I didn't even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way. I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time."
And if everything goes Sharon's way, the double mastectomy will be the last time she ever goes under the knife. She's been a noted plastic surgery advocate who has admitted spending well over $450,000 on procedures, earning her the title of Queen of Nip and Tuck in 2008, but now says she is done trying to turn back the clock. "You can't buy your youth back, no matter how much money you've got. I won't be going under the knife again."
