Anyone who thinks James Bond is a thing of the past is sorely mistaken. Skyfall, the latest entry in the 007 franchise, just grossed enough to become Bond’s biggest outing yet.

Skyfall has already been setting records overseas, where it surpassed the final Harry Potter film to become the best seven-day grosser ever. Now it’s on track to do some seriously impressive business domestically too, with an impressive $87.8 million opening weekend.

That’s the biggest Bond debut ever, which is no surprise considering that every Bond movie has outgrossed the one before it since GoldenEye (which took in $106 million). The last 007 film, Quantum of Solace, is the highest-grossing overall with $168 million domestically, so Skyfall looks to continue this trend to become the biggest Bond of all time.

Worldwide, the film has already grossed over half a billion dollars, meaning that Skyfall will soon outperform Casino Royale to become the biggest Bond film overseas too.
