Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange was one of the most praised and successful albums of 2012, but is that all he’s going to give us? Is Frank REALLY done with music? He hints at exactly that in a recent interview with The Guardian. Maybe the world really is going to end on Friday…
Frank mentioned that his debut album might be his last in a chat with The Guardian: “It could be. I don’t ever want to be caught up in a system of thinking I can do one thing cause that’s just… that’s just telling yourself a lie.”
Instead of popping out hit after hit for his sophomore album, Frank might be writing for a different form –- literature. “Storytelling’s a different thing,” he said. “It’s the more interesting part about making music for me, or making albums and songs and stuff. So much so that I might not make another album. I might just write a novel next. I don’t know!” That Frank, always keeping us on our toes.
As bummed as we are that Frank isn’t giving us a guaranteed thumbs up for a second album, it doesn’t mean he’s quitting music completely. "This isn't a faux retirement," he said. "It's no bulls**t. I was just making music yesterday. But I do think -– it would be fu**ing legendary if I just made Channel Orange last year, then put out a best-selling novel next year, then, you know, designed an arena in Stockholm in 2014! I don't know! You just do what you can and you have as much fun as possible, and love your life as much as you can despite the bullshit and all the expectations and s**t."
So overall, how about we all just keep our fingers crossed?
What are your thoughts on Frank not making another album? Are you sad or would you like to see him take on other talents?
