Though many of those who came home from the 2013 SAG Awards victorious were unsurprising, the show did leave us with a few stunning surprises.
Breakout show Downton Abbey provided the biggest upset of the night for television, while Argo was the biggest surprise winner of the night overall.
Argo had been cleaning up in the awards shows leading up to last night, but the win for Best Ensemble Cast was a shock to many because Lincoln appeared to be a lock for that category, with Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sally Field all receiving SAG and Oscar nominations for their performances in the film (and Daniel and Tommy winning theirs).
Or how about Silver Linings Playbook? The film is the first in years to receive acting nominations in all four categories at the Oscars, so you'd think that might add up to an ensemble award as well. But nope! Somehow Argo, with its potentially miscast lead performance from Ben Affleck and only one SAG and Oscar nomination to its name (for Alan Arkin) took home the award.
Meanwhile, the cast of Downton Abbey finally brought down Homeland, with the British show winning for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series. And in a more mild upset, Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence edged Zero Dark Thirty actress Jessica Chastain for Best Female Actress.
