America has cut their favorite American Idol contestants down to eight and ladies Angie Miller and Candice Glover have been dubbed some of the favorites of the competition. Bringing out the classics during last night’s Motor City music-theme, both had to fight two different battles: Angie with Nicki Minaj’s harsh words and Candice with those pre-show jitters!
Chelsea Briggs caught up with the contestants after their performances and dished on what went down on stage, what it was like working with the legend that is Smokey Robinson and messages they have for you Candy Canes and Dreamers out there!

Candice was the first one to take the stage to perform “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and as Chelsea found out firsthand, Smokey appears to be a major fan of her –- just like the rest of America! Recalling when Smokey went to chat with her before the show, Candice said, “When he came backstage I was like, ‘You mean to tell me you’re going to be in the audience.’ But once the music started I was like, ‘Let’s get it together.’ I turn into another person.”
While Candice was battling nerves, Angie was dodging the words of Nick after her performance of “Shop Around,” saying that she wasn’t herself. “Hearing that was the biggest dagger to the heart because I was myself and I don’t want America to think I’m trying to be something else,” said explained. “No, I was myself and I had fun and I hope they see that.”
We’ll all find out who makes it onto next week when the American Idol results show airs tonight at 8PM on Fox!
