Once upon a time, celebrities relied on publicists to bail them out of a jam. Following a PR nightmare, they’d remain mum, sit back, and let the professionals do the talking.

But now that celebrities (along with the rest of us) have multiple social media platforms at their fingertips, they often thoughtlessly tweet without all the facts, share an ignorant comment that would be better left unsaid, or try and do their own PR cleanup... and fail miserably. Instant regret follows, then the tweet disappears minutes later. But when you have hundreds of thousands or millions of followers, obviously somebody is going to see it… and screenshot it… and share it for all the world to see.

It's hard to believe Twitter is still a baby at only seven years old today, since it has become so ingrained into our culture... particularly when it comes to our interactions with celebrities. So in honor of Twitter's 7th birthday, here are 7 deleted tweets from celebrities that should never have been tweeted in the first place!

1. Chris Brown

"take them teeth out when u Sucking my d*** HOE."

Not only has Chris been guilty of deleting specific tweets when he (constantly) writes something stupid, he has also deleted his entire account numerous times. (And if he was smart, he’d have stayed away for good! But we’ve already established that he isn’t.) One of his most notorious rants was a response to Jenny Johnson, including such gems as “mom says hello… She told me not to shart in ur mouth, wanted me to s--- right on the retina.” Classy, right? He deleted his Twitter shortly after (but of course, returned soon after).

2. Amanda Bynes

"Hey @BarackObama... I don't drink. Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don't hit and run. The end."

One of Twitter’s loopiest celebrities has provided endless entertainment in the form of her many bizarre tweets. In fact, everything Amanda has ever tweeted should probably be deleted… but the funniest, by far, is her request that President Barack Obama intervene in her legal troubles. (He neglected to respond, natch.) Most recently, Amanda caused waves by tweeting a pic of Jay-Z with the caption “ugly face” (since deleted).

3. Russell Brand

(this picture)

This is the part of Katy Perry that she’s never gonna ever want her husband to tweet ― a pic of her without makeup in the morning. A quick delete didn't stop this less-than-flattering photo from getting out. Gee, could this sort of behavior be what contributed to the quick dissolution of her marriage? John Mayer would never do such a thing! (On second thought... we wouldn't put it past him.)

4. Denise Richards

“ok number is changed!! won’t make that mistake again.”

Denise played a nuclear physicist in the Bond flick The World Is Not Enough, but in real life, she can’t even figure out how Twitter works. Back in 2009, she was trying to DM her phone number and accidentally delivered it as a regular tweet, giving her many followers a nice opportunity to ring her up. Of course, it could be worse ― at least she didn’t pull an Anthony Weiner and send out X-rated pics (that all of Twitter surely would have been grateful for). Celebs who did accidentally tweet out topless pics when they meant to DM them? Allison Pill and Hayley Williams.

5. Bow Wow

“Im f—d up!!! Ohhhh damn. Y i drive the lambo. Chris might have to drive after next spot.”

Three unsafe things to do: drive under the influence, tweet under the influence, and tweet while driving. Bow Wow confessed that he was doing all three of these things (two of which are illegal), then realized it is unwise to live-tweet a crime you are committing and deleted them. It’s nice to know that he was more worried about which of his cars he’d wreck than, you know, the possibility of killing innocent people on the road.

6. Mary J. Blige

“Why is that people always try to understand estimate my intelligents?! They should never do that!”

One of the major downfalls of social media is that we can usually see exactly how intelligent a celebrity is based on their spelling and grammar. Star after star tweets ill-thought-through messages they clearly didn’t read over before hitting send, but when you’re tweeting about how superior your “intelligents” is, you better not misspell it! (There also seems to be a pretty brutal auto-correct in Mary's.) When you have millions of people reading what you’re writing and the media scrutinizing your every word, is it that hard to take an extra five seconds to give it a once-over?

7. Lindsay Lohan

"Why did I get put in jail and a nickelodeon star has had NO punishment(s) so far?”

The Queen of the De-Tweets. It seems LiLo primarily only has a Twitter account for the fun she has deleting them, since so many of hers seem to vanish soon after reaching her millions of followers (including this one, attacking fellow de-tweeter Amanda Bynes). From hating on Emma Stone to accusing her ex Samantha Ronson of cheating to flip-flopping presidential endorsements, we sure hope Lindsay’s stint in rehab also teaches her to wean herself off Twitter troubles.
