Nobody is safe in late night. Not even Carson Daly.
Carson has been quietly hosting Last Call with Carson Daly for the last 12 years, posting decent numbers for his 1:35am time slot because, well, his only competition is infomercials and reruns of The Golden Girls. However, it seems NBC has decided that since they're already shaking up Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon's shows, they may as well do the same thing to Carson. It appears that Last Call could be getting a major upgrade because Alec Baldwin is reportedly being considered as a permanent host replacement!
A source confirmed to Deadline.com that Alec has been involved in "conversations" with the network about taking over the show. The timing could be perfect because NBC is contractually obligated to use Alec. After 30 Rock went off the air last fall, he signed a two-year overall deal with NBC at the end of last year.
Although it seems like a strange choice, Alec may actually be perfect for the gig. He's hosted Saturday Night Live for a record 16 times and has obvious skills as a comedian. He's also been honing his interview chops by hosting famous people on a weekly podcast called Here's The Thing. And of course, he has far more star power than Carson. Let's just hope there aren't any photographers floating around the studio...
NBC's major late night shake will commence next year, when Fallon replaces Leno on The Tonight Show in February. A replacement for Jimmy's old slot has yet to be named, but Howard Stern and SNL star Seth Myers have been reported to be up for consideration.
Our suggestion for Alec's first guest, should this come to pass? How about Shia LaBeouf?
