Is Jennifer Love Hewitt the X Factor that the show has been looking for?
After Britney Spears and L.A. Reid departed the judges table after this past season, Simon Cowell is reportedly hoping that Jennifer will join him and Demi Lovato as a judge on the Fox reality competition show. A source has confirmed to Us Weekly that "Simon is very interested" in hiring her.
The decision is not official yet, though. Country star Reba McEntire and Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland are also reportedly in the running for the final spot at the table. A source close to Kelly also boasted that the singer is "nearly a done deal." However, a rep for The X Factor called any possible nominees for the third spot "pure speculation."
Jennifer currently stars on Lifetime show The Client List, for which she is also an executive producer and occasional director. She also enjoyed a lead role in CBS drama Ghost Whisperer, which ran from 2005-2010.
While she's certainly one of the most liked actresses in Hollywood, putting her in a role to judge musical talent may feel wrong to many fans of the show. Her attempted singing career in the '90s and early 2000s was one of the most notoriously epic crossover fails among celebrities... but she actually could sing. She's toyed around with the idea of recording a country album in recent years, so being on the show could be the perfect platform to revive her music career.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Khloe Kardashian will not be returning as a co-host for season three. She was widely slammed during her time on the show for her lack of on-camera presence and inability to read from a teleprompter. Her X Factor co-host Mario Lopez will now take assume that role entirely on his own.
Season Three will premiere in September 2013 and run until the end of the year.
