Nearly 40 years later, Johnny Rotten is still living up to his name.

The Sex Pistols frontman has never had a problem saying what's on his mind, consequences be damned. But while most of his views are polarizing, a recent interview he gave to Australian talk show The Project found everybody against him after he unleashed a barrage of sexist, misogynistic comments at a female anchor.

After speaking to a male reporter without incident, his tone became drastically different when the interview was switched over to Carrie Bickmore. When she interrupted him before he had finished answering a question, he reacted in the way that only Johnny could.

"Hey, hey missus, shut up, whoever you are, shut up... now listen, when a man is talking, do not interrupt," he said. Say what?!

Carrie tried to ignore him and continue the interview, but Johnny was having none of it. "You sound like one of them dreadful loud birds I don't like... you have to learn what manners and respect is," he said in the most ironic comment of the year. When the interview ended, her co-anchor Andrew Rochford referred to Johnny as "a flat-out sexist, misogynist pig."

After being universally panned for the interview, Johnny denied that he was either sexist or misogynistic. "They sounded like hyenas. And you have to tell a hyena to shut it from time to time," he said. "My only enemies are governments and institutions. Certainly not women. I've been married to one for 30 years and we love each other."
