It seems like the last several years have been a case of one step forward and two steps back for Lindsay Lohan, but she took yet another shot at forward momentum last night.

The actress appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and those who were expecting her to drunkenly jump on Dave's desk and flash her breasts a la Courtney Love were solely disappointed. She looked the best she has in years. She answered every question (well, almost every question...). And she took ribbing from the late night host with the kind of humor and self-deprecation that, if nothing else, could get people back on her side again.

David Letterman certainly didn't make things easy for her, though, treating their chat more like a Barbara Walters special than a late night interview. "Aren't you supposed to be in rehab now?" he immediately asked. "How will this time be different? What are they rehabbing, first of all? What is on their list? What are they going to work on when you walk through the door?"

But rather than get flustered, Lindsay gave a sincere and unscripted response that resulted in the audience applauding her. "I'm the happiest when I'm working and the healthiest, and I think this an opportunity for me to, you know, focus on what I love in life. And I don't think it's a bad thing. I think it's a blessing... and not a curse. I'm looking forward to it," she said.

Dave also grilled Lindsay about why she is "always in trouble" with the law or at work. "I'm a target. I've always been. I put myself in situations in the past where... I take full responsibility for it," she said. "You grow up and you mature and, I've said that a million times, I know that. But what else am I supposed to say when it's a process of life?"

Lindsay also confirmed in the interview that she will be headed to her court-ordered rehab stint on May 2 and stay there for a full three months. She and the judge in her case have agreed upon Seafield Center in Westhampton Beach, NY, according to TMZ. Prosecutors and the judge initially required a lockdown facility, but modified that agreement since a facility of that nature doesn't actually exist in the U.S. outside of the prison system.

The reason this facility was agreed upon is because patients are not allowed to leave the premises and 24-hour staff guard the doors. No one can technically stop Lindsay from leaving, but the authorities would be notified and it would immediately trigger a probation violation that would likely land her in jail.

All of that security comes at a price, though. Her 90-day stay at the facility will come out to a whopping $51,750!

It's likely that Lindsay won't be doing a whole lot of laughing in treatment, so check out the interview with Dave below and enjoy her in good spirits while you can!
