Whatever happened to saying "I do" once and being done with it?
Mariah Carey has never been accused of doing anything in moderation, but the singer and her husband Nick Cannon renewed their wedding vows yesterday for an unprecedented fifth time. This was no mere visit to the courthouse, either: the couple shut down Disneyland in order to have a fairytale-themed ceremony for their sixth trip down the aisle together. Do we think this is ridiculous?
Mariah's gigantic, corseted ivory wedding dress was characteristically over-the-top, featuring a dramatic ruffle detail skirt and train and a big diamond tiara. Nick opted for a Prince Charming-esque suit and the couple dressed their two-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, in matching outfits to their parents.
"Happy Anniversary from my Husband to me!!!!#4/30 #Grateful!!!" wrote Mariah as part of a series of tweets praising Nick.
Mariah reportedly showed up at the Magic Kingdom castle in a horse-drawn, pumpkin-shaped carriage, as the whole family then held hands to make their way to the aisle in front of a modest group of friends and relatives.
The annual renewals are a promise that the couple made to each other when they first tied the knot. Last year, Mariah and Nick renewed their wedding vows in typically understated fashion at the top of the Eiffel Tower. They said "I do" again in a hospital room in 2011 when Nick was being treated for an autoimmune condition, and at their Beverly Hills home in front of 100 guests in 2010. In 2009, they recreated their wedding at a posh ceremony in the Maldives.
We feel you, Chelsea Handler. That's pretty much our reaction as well...
What do you think of Mariah & Nick renewing their vows yet again?
