Is Kanye West famous?

You bet! There are few male artists more famous than Kanye West, actually ― especially since he knocked up Kim Kardashian and is photographed on the daily. After all, would a non-celebrity be hounded by the paparazzi so much that he ended up running face-first into a sign while trying to escape the cameras? No. No, he would not be.

Yet Kanye flat-out denied that he was a celebrity last night at the Roseland Ballroom, where he performed for the Adult Swim upfronts.

“I ain’t no motherf―ing celebrity,” he said, before performing a new song called “So Awesome.” “There’s one thing about me — I’m a terrible, terrible, terrible celebrity. I don’t know if you really know there’s one thing about me, but I’m the worst kind of celebrity. All I do is make real music. All I do is sit in the studio and make real sh-t. And that’s it. And that’s motherf―ing it. That’s motherf―ing it!”

But does this look like a non-celebrity to you?

Then the father-to-be made a rather ill-conceived statement about why he’s not playing star the way certain other celebrities do: “I ain’t runnin’ for office. I ain’t kissin’ nobody’s motherf―ing babies. I drop your baby and you motherf―ing sue me and sh-t.”

Wait, is Kanye prone to dropping babies? Does Kim know about this?

So, we get what Kanye was trying to say here. That he’s not into being a celebrity for celebrity’s sake. That he’s more focused on his music than on the limelight.

But is it just us, or does this sentiment ring a little hollow from the guy who’s having a baby with the biggest fame whore around? The guy who drives a $750,000 (recently crushed) Lamborghini? A guy who interrupts acceptance speeches thinking that his opinion is more important than the actual awards?

Oh, Kanye. Yes, you are the worst kind of celebrity ― the kind that doesn’t think he’s a celebrity at all.

Do you think Kanye was right about his fame?

Or is he a little deluded about just how much of a celebrity he is?
