Is wearing absolutely ridiculous crap out in public just a generational thing we never got the memo on?

We thought that Justin Bieber wearing a gas mask in London earlier this year was a one-off, but his buddy Jaden Smith is apparently reading the same fashion mags as his good friend. (Eccentric Pop Star Quarterly, perhaps?) As he exited trendy NYC eatery Nobu 57 while on a date with Kylie Jenner, he was wearing an outfit most people wouldn't consider sporting outside of Halloween.

As the pair exited the very adult restaurant, he was wearing a children's Iron Man costume.

Yes, this actually happened...

No explanation was given as to why he thought this would be a good move. To be fair, the 15-year-old Kylie wasn't exactly wearing appropriate Nobu attire either, choosing to sport a Jersey-licious leopard print dress that we would expect to see from a contestant on Rock Of Love...

Jaden and Kylie were first seen together publicly when the After Earth star opened up for the Biebs in London this past March. However, Jaden said they've known each other for years and their relationship only recently became romantic.

"I was in LA and we were all hanging out," explained Jaden on how they first met to Wonderland magazine. "Then I went to New York and she came too, then she came here and surprised me, so that's pretty baller. She's one of my best friends. It's pretty awesome."

Antics like the Iron Man costume, in addition to his sister Willow Smith's wild hairstyles, are leading many people to compare the family to the Kardashian clan in terms of attention-seeking. However, family patriarch Will Smith balked at any comparisons between the families.

"Fame is almost an inconsequential by-product of what we're really trying to accomplish," he said to Vulture. "We are trying to put great things into the world, we're trying to have fun, and we're trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves... the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less desirable for us."

Maybe after starring in After Earth, Jaden just thinks he has a shot at an Iron Man 4 audition... or he's taking the lyrics of Enrique Iglesias' "Hero" way too seriously.

What do you think of Jaden's outrageous fashion choice?
