The most-talked about sexual film of the year has found its director.
It’s been confirmed that Sam Taylor-Johnson will be taking on the directing role in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, according to Deadline. The 46-year-old has five directing titles under her belt, including Nowhere Boy where she met her 23-year-old husband Aaron Johnson. Here’s what we’re wondering: will her husband land the coveted role of Christian Grey in the flick? Talk about awkward, right?
Fifty Shades producer Michael De Luca spoke about the film’s new director, saying, “Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life. E L James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed and Sam is a natural fit.”
While the entire world may be pretty stoked about the film finally finding a director – one step closer to the big screen, guys – how does the book’s author E.L. James feel? She tweeted the exciting news to fans, writing, “I'm delighted & thrilled to let you guys know that Sam Taylor-Johnson has agreed to direct the film of Fifty Shades of Grey.”
And the woman of the honor? Sam had this to say: “I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen. For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”
The next step in the process, besides actually putting the script together – which is kind of an important part – is finding out leading man and woman. Fans have been giving their opinions on who should play Christian and actors are practically throwing themselves at the role. The latest news is after director Gus Van Sant shot a demo scene with Alex Pettyfer as Christian to convince the studio execs to hire him as the director (that kinda backfired), rumors have begun swirling that Alex has landed the leading role. But let’s wait for an official confirmation before we start to actually freak out.
