Clearly someone on Justin Timberlake’s team didn’t do their research.
Last week, Justin announced his new single “Take Back the Night” off The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2, proving to the world that all he does these days is work. But now he could be facing legal action by a very well-known organization – Take Back the Night.

The organization Take Back the Night “serves to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives” and “[seeks] to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence.” So, for those of us that have actually taken a listen to Justin’s new track, it definitely doesn’t do any of those things and taking the name would result in a legal lawsuit.
“Everyone at Take Back the Night is really shocked, because normally, we get asked when people want to use the name,” Katherine Koestner, Executive Director of Take Back the Night Foundation told RadarOnline. “Normally entities as large as Justin Timberlake do very kind and thoughtful things to support our cause.”
She added, “The lyrics are definitely very sexual and not at all clearly anti-sexual violence. ‘Use me,’ for example, is not a great phrase for anyone affiliated with the organization.”
Justin responded to the to Take Back the Night in a statement to RadarOnline that read:
"Upon the release of my new single ‘Take Back The Night’, I was made aware of an organization of the same name called The Take Back The Night Foundation. I wanted to take this opportunity to let all know that neither my song nor its lyrics have any association with the organization. As I’ve learned more about The Take Back The Night Foundation, I’m moved by its efforts to stop violence against women, create safe communities and encourage respectful relationships for women — Something we all should rally around. It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause."
I don’t know how Take Back the Night will feel about that, JT.
What do you think about this suit? Stupid move on Justin’s part or simple mistake?
