Is Lindsay Lohan the next Marilyn Monroe? According to her Canyons direction Paul Schrader, he’s already seeing the striking similarities between the two with their personal and professional lives.

Writing a piece for Film Comment, Lindsay and Marilyn share the same good and bad qualities. "Similarities? Tardiness, unpredictability, tantrums, absences, neediness, psychodrama—-yes, all that, but something more, that thing that keeps you watching someone on screen, that thing you can't take your eyes off of, that magic, that mystery,” he writes.

Taking it one step further, Paul goes to on claim that Lindsay has more “natural acting talent” then Marilyn ever possessed. "Like Monroe, her weakness is her inability to fake it. She feels she must be experiencing an emotion in order to play it. This leads to all sorts of emotional turmoil, not to mention on-set delays and melodrama. It also leads, when the gods smile, to movie magic."

Paul’s comments come just seven months after the brutally honest New York Times article that was published revolving what life was like on the set of The Canyons. Recalling how Lindsay was constantly late to film, Stephen Rodrick, author of the Times article, revealed that the star was fired by Paul after not showing up for work two days in row.

And even though Paul hired her back, after consulting with the rest of the cast and crew, and while the two did fight often during film, it looks like he had a change of heart about the troubled starlet.
