#RIPLarryShippers.

That’s the latest trend that’s hitting the world of Twitter following the U.K.’s Channel 4 documentary Crazy About One Direction, which many Directioners felt portrayed them in a not-so-flattering light – even saying they’d been depicted as “psychos.” Soon after the documentary aired, the hash tag #RIPLarryShippers quickly trended worldwide. What does this mean exactly?

In case you’re unfamiliar, “Larry” is the fan name given to One Direction's Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson after many believing a romantic relationship was formed between these two. While they both have firmly denied it, it’s never left the fandom. During Crazy About One Direction, “Larry” shippers were put on blast with their fan art and fan fiction, which quickly led many to believe apparent suicides occurred following the airing.

An unconfirmed rumor stated the suicide count at 14 and quickly escalated to 42. 1D member Liam Payne quickly took to Twitter after hearing about the tragic Twitter rumors, showing his concern and defending the group’s fans in a series of tweets. “Not really sure what’s going on right now I just hope everyone’s ok… Hearing some horrible things… Really hope this isn’t true,” he wrote.

He continued, “Just so all of you know we love you guys and we know how dedicated you are and tbh we can’t believe it that you guys spend all your time on us… We couldn’t give a f—k what any documentary says. They’re dramatised for entertainment and full of s—t anyway. We all know how hard you work for us and see it everyday at our shows… Let’s all take a step back and think about what we/you have all achieved. You should be proud.”

Liam is the only member of 1D to speak out on the rumors, although we’re sure others will take to Twitter soon. As we said, the suicide rumors have not been confirmed but we’ll keep you updated on incoming details.
